The 2025 F1 season is just around the corner, and all eyes are on Lewis Hamilton as he prepares for his first year with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion is seeking an all-time record eighth drivers’ championship after splitting with Mercedes. But how will he fare in his new machinery?
Our experts have weighed in with their predictions for Hamilton’s performance in the 2025 season. Connor McDonagh, Lewis Larkam, and Lewis Duncan all agree that Hamilton will face stiff competition from the likes of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and the McLaren drivers.
According to McDonagh, Hamilton will likely finish fifth in the drivers’ championship, behind the two McLaren drivers, Verstappen, and Leclerc. “The McLarens look to have the edge, and based on last year, both should score well,” McDonagh explained. “Verstappen will be in the mix, irrespective of how strong the RB21 performs throughout the year.”
However, McDonagh does believe that Hamilton will win at least one race during the season. “It’s very rare that Hamilton doesn’t win a race during a season – it’s only happened twice before,” he noted. “Ferrari will have some high peaks, allowing Hamilton to win at least once during his first year with the team.”
Larkam, on the other hand, is more optimistic about Hamilton’s chances. He believes that the British driver will win the championship in his first season with Ferrari. “I’ve previously gone out and boldly said Hamilton will win the championship in his first season with Ferrari, so I’m sticking to my guns,” Larkam declared.
In terms of how many races Hamilton will win, Larkam predicts that he will take the top step of the podium at least five or six times. “I expect this season to be tightly contested, with four teams sharing the top step of the podium,” he explained. “I think Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, both McLaren drivers, and George Russell will all win races.”
Duncan takes a more measured approach, suggesting that Hamilton will face a tough challenge in his first year with Ferrari. “Fighting for the championship in year one of his Ferrari deal is a tall order, but the season is long and Hamilton is clearly still brimming with the confidence of a driver who believes they can fight for another title,” Duncan noted.
However, Duncan does believe that Hamilton will be able to win at least two races during the season, matching his tally from last year with Mercedes. “Leclerc managed three for Ferrari last season, which is well within Hamilton’s remit to match,” he explained.
As the 2025 F1 season gets underway, all eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton as he seeks to make a strong impression in his new Ferrari machinery. Will he be able to win the championship in his first year with the team, or will he face a tough challenge from the likes of Verstappen and Leclerc? Only time will tell.
The upcoming season promises to be one of the most exciting in recent memory, with four teams – Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull – all vying for supremacy. The battle for the drivers’ championship will be intense, with Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, and the McLaren drivers all in the mix.
As the season progresses, we can expect to see plenty of twists and turns, with surprises and upsets along the way. But one thing is certain – Lewis Hamilton will be giving it his all as he seeks to make a successful transition to Ferrari and add another championship to his impressive resume.
The question on everyone’s lips is: can Hamilton win the championship in his first year with Ferrari? It’s a tough ask, but if anyone can do it, it’s the seven-time world champion. With his incredible talent, his fierce competitiveness, and his unwavering dedication to his craft, Hamilton is always a force to be reckoned with.
As the lights go out in Melbourne next weekend, Hamilton will be ready to put on a show. Will he emerge victorious, or will one of his rivals spoil the party? The world will be watching with bated breath as the 2025 F1 season gets underway.
