Everton are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti, who has been valued at £25m. According to TuttoJuve, the Toffees are interested in signing the Italy international, who has postponed contract talks with Juventus until the end of the season.
Gatti’s rise to prominence has been remarkable, having played in the sixth tier of Italian football while working as a bricklayer just a few years ago. However, since joining Juventus, he has established himself as one of the best defenders in Italy.
Newcastle United are also said to be interested in Gatti, having shown interest in him last year. Juventus may be forced to sanction his sale if they cannot reach an agreement on a contract renewal.
Everton’s interest in Gatti comes as the club prepares for a busy summer transfer window. The Friedkin Group, the club’s American investors, are set to provide manager David Moyes with a substantial budget to strengthen the squad.
The Toffees are also undergoing changes to their recruitment team, with Angus Kinnear looking to bring in two Leeds United chiefs. However, Moyes is reportedly keen to bring in two of his former West Ham United colleagues instead.
Gatti’s potential move to Everton would be a significant coup for the club, given his impressive form for Juventus. The 26-year-old has become a key player for the Italian giants, and his experience in Serie A would be invaluable to Everton’s squad.
