Celtic Warned Against Signing Lennon Miller as Pundit Questions His Quality
Celtic has been warned against signing Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller, with pundit Andy Walker questioning whether he is better than the club’s current midfield options. Walker believes that developing summer signing Luke McCowan would be a better option for the Hoops.
Miller has been linked with Celtic for several transfer windows, and some have suggested that the club should have signed him in January. However, Walker thinks that Celtic would be better off focusing on McCowan, who has already shown promise in his appearances for the club.
“When you see someone like Luke McCowan, who came from Dundee, I think he plays well for Celtic,” Walker said. “He has played a good number of games, as Brendan Rodgers was alluding to recently. But is he the guy who is going to start a game for you? Obviously, he did start against Rangers. But, when you have got everybody fit and Callum McGregor was playing, then Luke McCowan wouldn’t have started that game.”
Walker also questioned whether Miller is better than Celtic’s current midfielders, including captain Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, and McCowan himself. “Who is the better player? Lennon Miller or Luke McCowan? I think right now, Celtic would want to try and develop Luke McCowan a bit more,” Walker said.
Miller’s stats this season have been impressive, with a WhoScored rating of 7.07 in the Premiership. However, Walker believes that playing for Motherwell is a different proposition than playing for Celtic, where the pressure to perform is much greater.
While Miller’s future is uncertain, one thing is clear: Celtic will need to strengthen their midfield options if they are to compete with Rangers and other top teams in the Premiership. Whether Miller is the right man for the job remains to be seen.
