Two Sunderland players, Jenson Seelt and Salis Abdul Samed, are facing criticism from fans after they appeared to “like” a social media post celebrating Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win.
Newcastle United held a trophy parade and presentation on Saturday, which was attended by around 300,000 people. The celebration was also broadcast on Sky News and BBC.
Influential football Instagram account 433 posted images of the parade, which was liked by around 400,000 users, including Seelt and Abdul Samed. However, the two Sunderland players’ decision to “like” the post has not gone down well with the club’s fans.
Neither Seelt nor Abdul Samed was involved in Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Millwall in the Championship on Saturday, having both endured injury-hit campaigns. Seelt is yet to start a league match for Sunderland this season, while Abdul Samed has started just twice.
Sunderland supporters took to social media to express their disappointment and anger at the two players’ actions. One fan responded by saying, “Hope neither of them play for us again.”
The incident has sparked a heated debate among Sunderland fans, with many questioning the players’ loyalty and commitment to the club.
In other news, Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes launched a foul-mouthed dig at Sunderland during the cup celebrations on the Town Moor stage. The BBC was forced to apologize for the language used by Guimaraes.
Guimaraes also revealed what he told his teammates ahead of the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. He said, “Well, I said to them today we go to the pitch as a player and we live there as a legend.”
The incident has added to the already intense rivalry between Newcastle United and Sunderland, with many fans taking to social media to express their opinions on the matter.
