Matt O’Riley’s Potential Return to Celtic
According to Peter Grant, Matt O’Riley’s former coach at Fulham, O’Riley could be interested in returning to Celtic on loan if Reo Hatate leaves the club. Grant believes that O’Riley’s situation at Brighton, where he has been struggling with injuries and limited playing time, could lead him to consider a return to Celtic.
O’Riley’s departure from Celtic last summer was a significant blow to the club, as he had established himself as a key player in the team. However, his move to Brighton has not worked out as planned, with injuries limiting his playing time and impact.
Grant, who coached O’Riley at Fulham, knows the player well and believes that he would be interested in returning to Celtic if the opportunity arises. Speaking on Go Radio, Grant said: “I don’t think they will let him (Hatate) go cheaply, if they don’t get the right offer he won’t go.”
Grant also highlighted O’Riley’s frustration at Brighton, where he has been struggling to establish himself. “You are looking at Matt O’Riley’s situation, for me, can Matt O’Riley go from the hero he was at Celtic to being a bit-part with Brighton?” Grant asked.
O’Riley’s desire to play regular football and improve his game is well-known, and Grant believes that a return to Celtic could be the perfect solution. “He got a bad injury in his first game, he got six minutes the other night, I knew Matt as a kid, he wants to play football all the time.”
Grant also praised O’Riley’s character and commitment to the game. “He wants to improve, he wants to get better, he wants to get in the Denmark team. He wants to do all of these things.”
A return to Celtic would likely be a popular move among the club’s fans, who were sad to see O’Riley leave last summer. With Hatate potentially departing, the door could be open for O’Riley to return and re-establish himself as a key player at Celtic.
