Regis Le Bris Backs Wilson Isidor Despite Recent Form

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has expressed his continued trust in striker Wilson Isidor, despite the player’s recent dip in form. Isidor has not scored since mid-February and was dropped to the bench for a couple of recent games, but Le Bris remains confident in his abilities.

Le Bris freshened up his team for the game against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, replacing Isidor with Eliezer Mayenda, who took his chance by scoring twice. Mayenda followed that up with a goal in the weekend win against Cardiff.

However, when Le Bris opted to play both Isidor and Mayenda in the game against Preston, the decision backfired, and Sunderland underwhelmed in the draw. This has left Le Bris with a selection dilemma ahead of tomorrow’s game at Coventry City, with the Frenchman likely to revert to one up-front and having to choose between Isidor and Mayenda.

A New Situation for Isidor

Le Bris acknowledges that the situation has changed, with Mayenda now providing a viable alternative to Isidor. However, the Sunderland manager still has complete faith in Isidor’s abilities.

“I agree, it’s a new situation,” Le Bris said. “We spoke earlier in this press conference about new experiences for the team, for the players… the conditions change, and they have to experience this. Sometimes they can deal efficiently with the challenge, sometimes it is harder. But we can discuss it, talk about it, learn from it. I agree this is a new one right now. I still trust Wilson 100 per cent.”

Finding the Right Balance

Le Bris is trying to strike the right balance with his team selection, hoping that several key players can freshen up for the final games and the playoffs. He believes that Isidor, in particular, can benefit from a short break.

“It is like Riggy, for example, sometimes you just need one, two, three weeks to rest and to recover,” Le Bris said. “This can be really useful for Wilson. It’s not a positive for him as an experience because they want to play, score, be the main man, so I know it is not a pleasure for him, but at the same time, it is going to be useful for him. I still trust Wilson 100 per cent, 100 per cent.”
