Tensions are running high at Ferrari after a disappointing start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. The team’s drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, were involved in awkward exchanges with their engineers over the radio during the Australian Grand Prix.
Hamilton, who joined Ferrari from Mercedes, was heard telling his engineer, Riccardo Adami, to “leave me to it” after being reminded to use the K1 button, which helps with overtaking. The exchange was tense, with Hamilton appearing to be at the end of his tether.
Meanwhile, Leclerc had a surreal conversation with his engineer, Bryan Bozzi, after complaining that his seat was “full of water.” Bozzi’s response, “Must be the water,” was met with a dry wit from Leclerc, who added, “I’ll add that to the words of wisdom.”
Former F1 driver Christian Danner was critical of Bozzi’s response, calling it “disgraceful.” Danner felt that Bozzi’s comment was unprofessional and not helpful to Leclerc, who was trying to report a problem.
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has acknowledged that there is room for improvement, saying that the team can do a better job of communicating. Hamilton has also downplayed the drama, saying that the exchange with Adami was just a “back-and-forth.”
The team will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing start to the season at the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. It will be the first of six sprint weekends on the 2025 F1 calendar.
In other news, McLaren has refused a request from the FIA to attend a meeting ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix. Ferrari will also be absent from the meeting. The team’s absence has sparked speculation about their commitment to the sport.
The Chinese Grand Prix will take place on April 7, 2025. It will be a crucial race for Ferrari, who will be looking to get their season back on track.
