Celtic Eyeing Cut-Price Move for Former PSG Defensive Midfielder Kalidou Sidibe
Celtic FC is reportedly planning a summer move for Guingamp defensive midfielder Kalidou Sidibe, who has been compared to former Celtic star Nir Bitton. The 26-year-old Frenchman has impressed in Ligue 2, and his versatility and physical presence have caught the attention of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
Sidibe, who stands at 6 foot 7, has started 88 times as a defensive midfielder and 20 times as a centre-back in his club career, showcasing his positional flexibility. This versatility is reminiscent of Bitton, who played a crucial role in Rodgers’ Celtic team between 2016 and 2019.
The French midfielder’s performances in Ligue 2 have been impressive, with Sidibe winning more duels and making more tackles and interceptions than Celtic’s Callum McGregor in the Scottish Premiership. Sidibe’s ability to offer defensive security and his physical presence make him an attractive option for Rodgers.
Celtic’s interest in Sidibe comes as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2025/26 season. With McGregor’s absence in the recent loss to Rangers highlighting the need for depth in midfield, Sidibe’s arrival could provide a valuable option for Rodgers.
The transfer window is set to open soon, and Celtic will face competition for Sidibe’s signature. However, with the Frenchman’s contract set to expire in 2026, Guingamp may be tempted to cash in on their prized asset. If Celtic can secure a cut-price deal for Sidibe, it could prove to be a shrewd move by Rodgers and the club’s recruitment team.
As Celtic looks to push on in the 2025/26 season, the addition of Sidibe could provide the necessary depth and quality to the squad. With his versatility, physical presence, and defensive prowess, the French midfielder has the potential to become a key player for Rodgers’ side.
